The faulting mechanism of this earthquake was exactly as expected by geophysical studies of the tectonic motion ​of the Caribbean plate. Geophysics works!

Weston Observatory Records Magnitude 6.3 Explosion in North Korea on September 3, 2017

On September 3, 2017, the magnitude 6.3 (suspected nuclear…) explosion that occurred in North Korea was recorded by Weston Observatory. New England is very far away, so the signal is weak, but it’s there:

Also shown below (From Andy Frassetto) is a nearby station MDJ (Mudanjiang, China), where it is very clearly recorded (red seismogram), and has been clearly identified as a large explosion.
